What this is
A short, plain-language explanation of how to ask AI (chatbots) better questions so you get more useful answers.
Think of AI like a helpful shopkeeper
The AI doesn’t "know" things like a person does; it’s more like a shopkeeper who tries to find the best item based on how you describe it.
The clearer you describe what you want, the more likely the shopkeeper (AI) will hand you the right thing.
Why wording matters (simple)
Vague question -> AI guesses.
Specific question -> AI gives focused, useful answers.
Extra helpful: say who the answer is for, how you’ll use it, and what form you want the answer in (short list, step-by-step, plain language).
Five friendly rules to follow
Be specific: say what you need and include important details.
Instead of: "How fix my printer?"
Ask: "My HP DeskJet 2620 won't print; the status says 'paper jam' though I can't find a jam. I use Windows 10. What step-by-step checks should I try?"
Say who you are / the audience: helps the AI set tone and depth.
"Explain like I'm 60 and not comfortable with computers."
Ask for the format you want: bullet list, short steps, example text, or a checklist.
"Give me 6 short steps I can follow."
Add constraints: time, materials, safety, or privacy.
"I only have a screwdriver and a flashlight; give fixes I can do without removing the printer cover."
Ask the AI to show its sources / explain reasoning for facts you care about.
"If this is medical/financial/legal, tell me when to consult a professional and why."
What AI commonly gets wrong (so you can catch it)
It may be confident but incorrect ("hallucination"). Always double-check facts you plan to rely on.
It may give general advice when you needed specifics — use follow-ups asking for examples and details.
How to follow up (short)
If the answer is too technical: "Explain that in simpler terms for a beginner."
If the answer missed something: "You missed X — incorporate it and try again."
If you want less or more detail: "Make this shorter / expand steps."
Safety and privacy reminders
Don’t paste private passwords, bank details, or medical records.
For serious medical, legal, or safety issues, use the AI as a starting point but consult qualified professionals.
If you want, try the exercises file next — it gives hands-on practice with prompts and shows how small changes help.
